Spain Sets Tourism Record in 2024: 94 Million Tourists, €126 Billion Revenue

MADRID (AA) – Spain’s Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, announced that 2024 was a record-breaking year for Spanish tourism, with 94 million tourists visiting the country and generating a staggering €126 billion in revenue.

Long ranked among the top three tourist destinations worldwide, Spain closed 2024 on a historic high note.

Minister Hereu stated in a press briefing that the number of tourists increased by approximately 10% compared to the previous year, reaching 94 million in 2024.

He further noted that total tourist spending also saw a remarkable 16% rise compared to 2023, amounting to €126 billion. Spain is committed to a tourism model that prioritizes social and environmental quality. This quantitative growth, which forces us to succeed in qualitative expansion, ensures we maintain our leadership in global tourism, Hereu remarked.

Highlighting growth in high-value and long-haul markets, Minister Hereu added, we aim to sustain and deepen this progress. Instead of focusing solely on tourist numbers, our ambition is to excel in quality, environmental sustainability, and visitor satisfaction. This is how we aim to win the ‘Champions League’ of global tourism.

The minister also projected continued growth for Spanish tourism in 2025, anticipating a 9% increase in tourist numbers and a 16% rise in spending during the first quarter compared to the same period in 2024.

British tourists remained the largest group visiting Spain in 2024, followed by French, German, Italian, Dutch, and American visitors.

Spain welcomed 85.17 million tourists in 2023, while the record-breaking 94 million visitors in 2024 marked the highest figure ever recorded in the country’s tourism history.
